New Railway Station at Waterbeach gets green light

RLW Estates has secured planning permission from South Cambridgeshire District Council to develop a new railway station at Waterbeach to serve a potential new 11,000 home community to the north of Cambridge.

RLW is a joint venture between St John’s College Cambridge, The Royal London Mutual Assurance Company and Cambridge based developer Turnstone Estates.

The new station will replace the outdated existing and when completed in 2021 will cut a potential 8,000 additional car journeys on the A10.

Chris Goldsmith of RLW said, “The South Cambridgeshire Local Plan and Cambridge to Ely Corridor Study both called for the relocation of the station and we are looking to ensure that it is open in 2021 to coincide with delivery of housing at the new town and relieve congestion on the road infrastructure in the area. Initially will include a 200-space car park, bus stops, cycle parking and taxi/drop-off area. There will also be a shuttle bus service linking the southern part of Waterbeach village to the new station.”
