Turnstone and East Cambridgeshire District Council officially mark the start of construction at Ely Leisure Village

On Thursday 30th June Tim Deacon, Director of Turnstone Estates, was joined by Cllr Richard Hobbs, Chairman of Commercial Services for East Cambridgeshire District Council and Cllr Lis Every, Vice Chair of Commercial Services for East Cambridgeshire District Council, to officially mark the commencement of work on site.

The leisure park, on a 6.5 acre site by the A10 at Downham Road, is set around a six-screen Cineworld cinema, four in-line restaurants, two drive-thru units, a further solus unit and 380 car parking spaces together with an underpass.

Tim Deacon said: “We’re working hard to create a successful leisure park with a great choice of restaurants to support our anchor cinema Cineworld. Ely Leisure Village will serve a vast catchment north of Cambridge where currently there is no leisure provision. Coupled with the proposed swimming and leisure centre in phase two this is set to be become a major leisure destination.”

Cllr Richard Hobbs said: “I’m delighted to celebrate the start of this very exciting build. This new leisure centre complex will be a fantastic resource for the district and I’m pleased we are able to offer something back to our residents.

“I hope everyone will enjoy having access to the 25 metre swimming pool, two dance studios, a four-court sports hall, an all-weather pitch and a 120 station cardio gym.

“We have worked very closely with Turnstone on this project and our collaboration has been hugely successful.”
